Mindset coach Callum Hardingham, originally from Stanley Common, rose to the challenge by beating hundreds of other contestants - and will now compete as one of the final 15 in the programme this weekend.

The 75kg 24-year-old, who is now living in Rugby, battled for his spot in the final by completing heat four of the competition in just 3:11, landing him the nickname, the ‘mighty moustache’.

The series sees competitors pushed to their limits as they attempt to complete TV’s toughest obstacle course.

The format, which was already a smash hit in the USA, Sweden and Japan, has proved popular with ITV viewers peaking at 6 million - and this year is the second series.

Each part of the series is laden with jaw-dropping challenges, heart-stopping excitement and adrenaline-fuelled action as the contestants attempt to complete three punishing and potentially hilarious stages. ITV describes the show as the “toughest obstacle course ever seen on British television”.

The final episode will see the ‘last man standing’ on the final course.
