VIDEO: High Peak snow leads to road and school closures

Driving conditions are extremely poor across the area, and public transport throughout the borough has also been badly affected, with many bus services not running, and some trains struggling in the conditions. Northern Rail is reporting delays to services between Buxton and Hazel Grove, with a number of train cancellations.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning, which is in force until 11.55pm tonight, with snow forecast for the rest of the day.

Many high-level routes have been closed due to snow and ice, with treacherous driving conditions reported on others. Derbyshire police urges motorists to take extra care and only attempt journeys if essential.

The weather also forced the closure of over 30 High Peak schools. Buxton and Leek College’s two campuses are closed and will remain closed tomorrow (Friday) for staff and students.

The adult education centre in Glossop is closed and classes have been cancelled for the rest of the day.

The household waste recycling centre at Waterswallows, Buxton, is also closed.

Buxton Swimming Pool is closing at 1pm and all classes have been cancelled.
