URGENT PRODUCT RECALL: Injury concerns after IKEA child safety gate opens unexpectedly

Parents are being urged to stop using an IKEA safety gate immediately after reports that it has opened unexpectedly and children have fallen down the stairs.

Some of the incidents have left the children involved requiring medical attention and a third-party investigation has shown that the locking mechanism on the PATRULL gate is not reliable.

Maria Thörn, Acting Business Area Manager at Children’s IKEA, said: “At IKEA, we take a zero tolerance perspective regarding child safety.

“We want to offer safe products and we believe that children are the most important people in the world.

“Whenever we are made aware of a possible safety issue with our products, we investigate thoroughly. We cannot accept that there could be a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action we have decided to recall all PATRULL safety gates.”

All customers who have a PATRULL safety gate should stop using it immediately and return it to an IKEA store for a full refund.

PATRULL safety gate, PATRULL KLÄMMA and PATRULL FAST have been sold on all IKEA markets. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required. For more information, contact IKEA on 0203 645 0010.
