Two hospitalised following industrial accident near Buxton

One person has been airlifted to hospital following an industrial accident near Buxton left him with '˜severe burns'.

He was one of two men hospitalised following an incident at Lhoist, near Brierlow Bar, just before 9am on Thursday morning (November 2).

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “One man has minor injuries to his face and hands and the other man - who has more severe burns to his hands, face and head - has been airlifted to Wythenshawe Burns Unit. Neither have life-threatening injuries.

“The police have been on the scene taking pictures which will be passed to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for its investigation.”

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received the 999 call at 8.35am reporting an incident at Buxton.

“Our Emergency Control Centre sent an ambulance car, two ambulances and the air ambulance.

“A patient was taken by land ambulance to Stepping Hill Hospital, and another patient was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester by air ambulance.”

The HSE confirmed it had been notified of the incident and “remained in contact with the police”.
