Major Derbyshire roads closed despite gritting as snow falls across region

Closures are in place on A57 Snake Pass, Rushup Edge and Winnats Pass in the Peak District and A6024 Holme Moss on the border between West Yorkshire and the High Peak district.

Derbyshire County County shut the four major Derbyshire roads this morning (January 14) despite gritters patrolling areas overnight in anticipation of the forecasted snow.

The snowfall is currently heaviest in the High Peak, Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire and the council say they are now concentrating their efforts on keeping principal routes clear.

According to the Met Office, more snow is expected to spread south and west to cover the county throughout the day after heavy snow started falling in Chesterfield from 10am this morning.

The yellow weather warning for ice and snow is valid until 9pm tonight.
