Top marks for school after Ofsted report

Inspectors visited the Belper school in December last year and delivered their glowing findings at the start of this year.

The report makes good reading for headteacher Karin Baker, who joined the school last January, as inspectors deemed the “leadership and management are now a strength of the school”.

The school was judged to be ‘good’ in all areas, with an ‘outstanding’ early years and foundation stage, and the report stated the “provision for children in the early years and year one is outstanding because activities are 
imaginative”.

An ecstatic Jo Whitehouse, senior teacher as well as reception and Year 1 class teacher, said, “We are thrilled with the result.

“I recently became an early years lead teacher and moderator for the authority, supporting other settings within the county, so it’s great to receive the highest grade.

“There are a lot of changes happening at the school; our computer programming club received ‘star status’, our kitchen has received various healthy food awards, and we are very excited to be introducing a nursery from September, taking rising 
three-year-olds.

“We also hope to have a toddler group running within school so babies and parents can stay and play.”
