Three men accused of badger killing in Darley Dale

Three men have been accused of killing a badger and attempting to stage an animal fight with dogs in Darley Dale.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, January 13, how Danny Green, Kyle Green and Martin Skinner allegedly committed five related offences between May 9 and 12, last year.

All three pleaded not guilty to wilfully killing a badger, causing unnecessary suffering to a cross-bred lurcher dog by causing an animal fight to occur, and causing unnecessary suffering to a cross-bred Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Mastiff dog by causing an animal fight to occur.

The accused also deny causing or attempting to cause an animal fight to take place and to possessing a lamp designed or adapted for use in an animal fight.

Magistrates adjourned the case for a trial on April 4 at Chesterfield magistrates’ court.

Danny Green, 26, and Kyle Green, 23, both of Arnside Road, Maltby, Rotherham, and Martin Skinner, 29, of Headingley Way, Edlington, Doncaster, were released on conditional bail.

Their bail conditions include not being left in charge of a dog while alone and they must not enter Derbyshire except for appointments with their solicitors.

The alleged offences come under the Protection of Badgers Act and the Animal Welfare Act.
