Sprucing up Buxton with big spring clean

Volunteers are expected to turn out in force for the Big Buxton Spring Clean this weekend.

Organised by Buxton Town Team, volunteers will be picking litter, cleaning signs, utility boxes and information boards and seats, removing old string, cable ties and out of date notices from railings and posts, and weeding on Saturday.

High Peak Borough Council’s Clean Team will be taking part, and Waitrose are also helping, with staff taking part. The company is also loaning organisers surplus shopping trolleys to help move equipment and bags of rubbish around.

The council will be disposing of the litter collected, while Keep Britain tidy have donated tabards and bin liners.

A number of other organisations including Transition Buxton and the Friends of the Pavilion Gardens, are also helping out. Buxton Rotary Club are holding their own event on Saturday, so members will be out in the days before.

Harpur Hill Residents’ Association and WI are doing their own clean up to run parallel with the event, and organisers are hoping people in Fairfield and Burbage will be doing the same.

Anyone who can help should meet at 10am at Turner’s Memorial.
