Snow predicted by Met Office so far fails to affect majority of Derbyshire

A 16-hour yellow 'be aware' alert for snow in Derbyshire - which was issued by the Met Office on Wednesday morning - is valid until 9am on Thursday.

A Met Office spokesman had said up to six centimetres of snow may fall 'in a number of areas' with possibly as much as ten centimetres locally – mainly above elevations of 300 metres.

The majority of the county has so far escaped the worst of the weather - but two roads remain closed because of black ice and snow.

Cheshire police said the A537 Cat and Fiddle route between Macclesfield and Buxton and the A54 Bosley lights junction to Buxton are shut.

There are currently no other reported road closures in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire County Council said its team of gritters had treated all the area's main roads overnight.
