Six official Children in Need singles which topped the charts

Children in Need has spawned six UK number one singles. Here they are in chronological order.

1. 1997 - ‘Perfect Day’ performed by Lou Reed and a host of stars including David Bowie, Bono, Elton John, Boyzone, Heather Small, Emmylou Harris, Brett Anderson, Joan Armatrading, and Tom Jones.

2. 2000 - ‘Never Had a Dream Come True’ by S Club 7. The single sold 630,000 copies in the UK.

3. 2001 - ‘Have You Ever’ by S Club 7. The single entered the charts at No.1 and spent seven weeks in the top 10.

4. 2004 - ‘I’ll Stand By You’ by Girls Aloud. The girl group’s cover of The Pretenders hit was the band’s second No. 1 single, and spent two week in the top spot.

5. 2009 - ‘The Official BBC Children in Need Medley’ - performed by Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band. The medley, featuring a host of famous cartoon characters, sold more than 400,000 copies.

6. 2010 - ‘Love You More’ by JLS. The song went straight to the top of the charts and was the band’s fourth No. 1 single.
