Should a medical professional be reinstated to Fairfield Sure Start Centre?

The open day was held by North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group as it has been more than a year since the full-time nurse practioner left and the CCG wanted to see if people missed the service.

Resident Alison Hill said: “If we were all well it would be easy to get a bus into town to see a doctor or nurse, but the times when you need to see a medical person are the times when you aren’t very well and getting a bus becomes difficult.

“Having lived with the service and lived without I think the NHS is failing Fairfield by not providing the service.”

Since the nurse left the GP drop-in sessions also moved out of the Victoria Park Road site soon after.

Louise Swain, head of patient experience for the CCG, said: “It is clear there is a lot of passion in the area and as of yet we don’t know what the outcome will be and if a nurse will be reinstated to the centre. We are here to find out if people feel this is needed or not.”

Around 20 people gave their views on Monday, March 21. New mum Fiona Wardle, 26, said: “I’m lucky I can drive but for all those people who can’t, getting the bus with an unwell child must be a nightmare so I think it the service should come back.”
