Chairman of Buxton Civic Association (BCA) Paul Dinsdale, accepting the cheque from Waitrose manager Dan Hopkinson, said “Everything we do aims to keep our woods open to all free of charge. We are grateful that the efforts of our members, volunteers and staff are apparently so widely recognised.

“It is now close to 50 years since concerned residents worked to establish BCA. This is one anniversary we want to celebrate with a booklet charting our history.

“We have almost 200 acres of woodlands to maintain and enhance – an expensive and ever-present responsibility.

“We extend our sincere thanks to Waitrose and the town as a whole for such generous support.”
