Security advice for Bakewell patients and carers

Hospital patients and carers in Bakewell have been picking information on home and personal security from their local policing team.

PCSO Hayley Grundy from the Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team visited Newholme Hospital on Tuesday, March 3 and Friday, March 6, to meet with day care unit patients and a group dedicated to people with Parkinson’s disease and their carers.

She chatted about easy ways to boost home security including ensuring doors and windows are locked when residents leave the house or go to bed and keeping valuables out of sight.

Hayley also spoke about online and telephone scams, doorstep callers and offered advice around the simple steps that people can take to prevent themselves from falling victim to fraudsters.

PCSO Grundy said: “I was invited by hospital staff to go along and chat to patients who live locally and I was delighted to do so.

“Both events were very successful and patients were keen to find out more about simple security steps to take to better protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime.

“I attend the hospital day care unit every six months to meet local people. It’s good to go out into the local community and talk to residents about what really concerns them.”
