Sargeants support Road Safety Week

Special Sergeants Steve Pritchard, Kevin Harrell, Steven Bamford and John Saddington teamed up last Saturday (November 19) to carry out vehicle safety checks along the A6 through Dove Holes.

Throughout the evening, the policing team monitored the speed of passing vehicles to put the brakes on motorists exceeding the limit. They also carried out spot checks to offer advice on vehicle safety defects.

Special Sergeant Steve Pritchard said: “During the evening the team and I issued three tickets to motorists exceeding the 30mph limit, along with warnings and advice around the dangers of excessive speed on the roads. Speed limits are there for a reason so I hope the motorists took this on board and drive more carefully on the roads, particularly through neighbourhoods such as this.“We also stopped vehicles along the road to offer advice on improving minor defects, such as faults with vehicle lights.“Local residents gave their support in the road safety initiative, with some commenting that the visible presence of the police has helped to slow down cars through their village.”

The vehicle safety and speed checks were carried out in support of the annual Road Safety Week which runs from Monday, November 21 to Sunday, November 27.

The action week is coordinated by the road safety charity BRAKE.
