Riding club’s new home plea

Chapel and District Riding Club has taught young and old the arts of dressage, horse showing and show jumping – and has put a special emphasis on involving youngsters who could not usually afford to ride.

But following the “amicable expiry” of their current lease after 10 years, the club is now urging landowners in the High Peak to help find them a new home – or else they may have to close down for good.

Sarah Hobson, current chair, said: “This could lead to the end of the club, but we will do everything in our power to stop that from happening, as it would be heartbreaking for our members, especially the under-tens.”

Sarah said the club – which currently has around 50 members – is ideally looking for about six acres of flat land, close to Chapel, which has storage and space for jumps.

“We are not a wealthy club so we can’t buy land, but we’re very happy to pay an annual rent as we have done 
previously,” said Sarah.

“The club brings a great deal to the local community and many of our members have gone on to compete in prestigious competitions like Horse of the Year.

“We don’t want to let our members down. This is their club and it would be a sad loss, if the club folded due to lack of facilities.”
