Reunion for those with memories of St Anne's Hotel

As work on the £50m Crescent project is well underway the reunion has been organised to preserve the history and the memories of the people who used he hotel in its hay day.

At the reunion, on Thursday, March 23 there will be members of ‘Present From The Past’ oral history project who will be talking to people and creating an audio archive which will eventually go on display at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.

Penny Cook worked as a sub contractor making soft furnishings for the hotel in the early 1980s. She said: “We want to get as many people to the reunion as possible, it doesn’t matter where you worked or if you came here to socialise. We want to hear people’s stories of working in the most iconic building in town.”

Chris Drews (nee Wilman) said: “There are a lot of people still in the town and some who may have moved away so this is a chance to catch up with old faces and reminisce about what happened to people you know and of bygone days.”

Liz Mackenzie, engagement and events manager at Buxton Crescent and Thermal Spa, said: “This is a key moment in Buxton’s history and a perfect time to reflect on the past and capture precious memories. This collaborative project is unearthing and preserving a key archive for many people of all ages to experience and learn from.”

At the reunion there will refreshments as well as a 15 minute update on the Crescent and Pump Room projects. The event will run from 2.30pm – 4.30pm at the Old Hall Hotel, Buxton on Thursday, March 23 numbers are limited so email [email protected] to reserve a space.
