REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2015: List of Derbyshire services

Remembrance Sunday services will be taking place across the county to remember the brave men and women who went to war and never came home.

Here’s a list of some of the services being held in Derbyshire this weekend.

Buxton - Members of the civic party will meet at the town hall at 10.45am and walk in procession to the Cenotaph. A service, jointly conducted by the Rev John Hughton and Rev Andrew Parker, will then take place at the Cenotaph on the Slopes. This will be followed by a procession down to the Conservatory at the Pavilion Gardens.

New Mills - A service will take place at St George’s Church at 10.30am, and then at the war memorial, followed by a parade to the Memorial Garden in High Lea Park. At Low Leighton Methodist Church, a special Remembrance Sunday service ‘Remember the Heroes’ will be led by the Rev Kerry Tankard at 6pm, featuring Dove Holes Brass Band and Royal British Legion standard bearers.

Chapel-en-le-Frith - The parade will form outside the scout hut at 9.40am, marching up to St Thomas Becket Church at 9.55am, ready for the 10.15am service. After the service the wreath laying and two minutes silence will be held on the market place at 11am.

Glossop - A parade to the cenotaph will leave the Market Place at 10.50am followed by a service conducted by Father Gregory Tobin and the Rev Norman Shaw. A procession will then proceed to the Market Ground. Refreshments will be available at Bradbury Community House. Music will be provided by Glossop Old Band.

Hadfield - A morning service will be held at St Andrew’s Church at 10am, conducted by the Rev Felicity Walters, before congregating at the cenotaph for a service at 10.50am, led by Rev Walters and the Rev Helen Stubbs. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Community Room, Hadfield Hall, Hadfield.

Peak Dale - A parade from Great Rocks Club at 10.30am, accompanied by Peak Dale Band, will be followed by a service of remembrance in the Memorial Garden, led by the Rev David Hall.

Whaley Bridge - Services will be held at the war memorial in Whaley Bridge Memorial Park from 10.30am, and separately at the Uniting Church, Buxton Road, at 10.45am. Prior to the Sunday events, a service will take place on Saturday at 10.45am on Station Approach.

Kettleshulme - A service will be held at the Village Hall, Kettleshulme, at 3pm.

Hayfield - The civic parade will leave Primrose Court at 10.30am before the act of remembrance and wreath service at Hayfield Cenotaph at 10.50am. A remembrance service will take place at St Matthew’s Church at 11.20am.

Chesterfield - The annual Remembrance Sunday service will take place at St Mary and All Saints’ Crooked Spire Church at 2.30pm. The service will be followed by a parade through the town centre and along Knifesmithgate to the War Memorial at Rose Hill, opposite the Town Hall. Members of the public are also welcome to attend the wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial from approximately 3.30pm.

There will be no service at 11am on Remembrance Sunday, November 8, due to the events taking place in the afternoon.

Dronfield - A parade will gather between 10am and 10.15am from School Lane before progressing along High Street and then arriving at the Dronfield War memorial at about 10.55am, for wreath laying and two minutes of silence from 11am.

A service will also be held at St John the Baptist Church, from 11.25am.

Bolsover - Parade will start at Bolsover Castle at 10.35am, moving along High Street to Bolsover Parish Church, to Town End and Market Place to the Cenotaph. There will be wreath laying and a ceremony at the Cenotaph with two minutes of silence from 11am.

Clowne - Service at St John’s Church from 9.30am to 10.15am. A parade from the Salvation Army base will take place from 10.45am. A service and wreath laying and Last Post will take place from 10.55am-11.05am.

Matlock - Service at Pic Tor War Memorial at 11am, service at Starkholmes War Memorial at 11.30am. The parade will assemble on Edgefold Road at 2.30pm, marching out at 2.45pm to Park Head. A further service will be held at Hall Leys Park Head at 3pm.

Alfreton - Assemble at Alfreton House at 10.30am for the parade, which will march towards the memorial on King Street. There will be wreath laying at the memorial followed by two minutes of silence from 11am. A service will also be held at St Martin’s Church.

Ripley - The parade will leave Derby Road Co-op at 10.15am prompt to arrive at All Saints Church at 10.35am for a service and wreath laying.

Ilkeston - Anyone planning to attend Ilkeston’s parade is asked to be at South Street car park no later than 10.20am. The march will make its way to the Cenotaph on the Market Place for the Remembrance Service which will commence with the wreath-laying ceremony at 10.40am.

Long Eaton - Those planning to attend the Long Eaton parade need to be at West Gate by 10.20am. The march will make its way to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying at 10.45am. A service and mass will be held at St Laurence’s Church from 9.30am prior to the parade.

Belper - A wreath laying ceremony will take place at 10.45am, followed by a two-minute silence observed at 11am in the Memorial Gardens. A parade will depart the Memorial Gardens at 11.10am and make its way to St Peter’s Church for a service at 11.30am.

A service will also be held at Christ Church on the Triangle, Belper, at 10.50am.

Milford - A service will be held at Holy Trinity Church at 10am.
