Properties evacuated as blaze breaks out in Buxton

A house went up in flames in Buxton last night '“ leading to the evacuation of a number of homes.

Emergency services were called to a fire in a large property on Hardwick Mount at about 9.10pm.

Nobody has been injured but a number of nearby properties were evacuated with 16 people taken to safety.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said four engines and two aerial platforms were sent to the scene. A fire investigation is due to take place later.

A fire service spokesman added: “The property was well-alight when we arrived.

“Nobody was in the house at the time and we believe nobody has been living there for some time.”

Hardwick Mount remains closed and may not be re-opened for a number of hours.

People are being urged to avoid the area.
