High Peak Food Hub will meet every Thursday from June 7 and will give shoppers an opportunity to buy locally-grown fruit and vegetables as well as enjoy cookery demonstrations and producer talks.

The new supermarket is the brainchild of Esther Morrison, from High Peak Food Hub, who says it will help to provide a boost to traders and producers in the area.

She said: “Local independent shops need supporting, local restaurant capacity is limited in scope, there is no longer a town deli or greengrocer in many of the surrounding towns - though New Mills has an excellent fruit and veg stall at it’s Friday and Saturday market - and many of the newer residents were not able to shop local except on Saturdays, because of their commute.

“But there is an enthusiasm for great, local food being more widely available and High Peak Food Hub will meet that need.”

Online shoppers will also be able to collect their local produce grocery shopping from the hub courtesy of Ashford-in-the-Water-based SaucedHere.co.uk.

And there will be an opportunity to access independent food traders through an app called ‘Marketti’.

Esther added: “High Peak Food Hub will bring together the social fun of market shopping with our growing desire to shop locally and ethically.”

n The hub will meet every Thursday, starting from June 7, between 5.50pm-7.30pm, in The Butterfly House at The Torrs in New Mills.
