There have been an increased number of incidents in the north of the county where residents have left their properties insecure and offenders have stolen car keys and then stole cars.
Sergeant Christopher Simcock from Glossop CID said: “Residents are often leaving doors unlocked and their car keys near to the door on work surfaces or hooks. Offenders are then entering properties and taking the keys and then stealing cars.
“We would advise the public not to leave keys near to windows or doors. Keys can easily be hooked through letterboxes and open windows. Also to keep doors locked at all times, even when you are in the house.”
