Police stop 10 speeding drivers an hour in Hathersage

Speeding drivers have been tearing up the streets as a police operation to check vehicle speeds found almost 30 drivers were breaking the law in the space of three hours.

Officers from the Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team and the Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team carried out the check along Sheffield Road in Hathersage, and had to stop and speak to 28 drivers during the operation on May 9.

A further ten vehicles were stopped by the policing team, including one motorist being spoken to about their manner of driving and three motorists for not wearing a seatbelt.

The findings have lead Derbsyhire COnstabulary to remind motorists to of the importance of sticking to speed limits.

Sergeant Andy Wordsworth, who oversees Safer Neighbourhood policing in the area, said: “Speed limits are in place for a reason and it was concerning to see the number of people who exceeded this along Sheffield Road.

“We will continue to work alongside our partners to carry out further speed checks and Operation Safe Drive events to target those motorists and make our roads safer for all.”

Operation Safedrive is an on-going Derbyshire police campaign to educate motorists about responsible driving and make roads across the county safer.
