Plans to expand Furness Vale Marina get go ahead

The application, submitted by owner Richard Purcell, for 38 moorings was approved by the development control committee at a meeting on Monday in Chapel-en-le-Frith.

As reported, phase one of the redevelopment will involve creating a new marina on a field to the north of the swing bridge, with 35 berths. The second phase will involve the reconfiguration of the existing harbour, off Station Road, extending the capacity of boats from 21 to 24.

A new facilities building containing toilets, showers, a laundry area and 32 additional car parking spaces will also be provided. The new bays will be for the benefit of boat storage on an annual basis.

Members heard that the council received six letters of objection on the grounds that there is little visitor mooring along the upper Peak Forest Canal, that the existing marina is big enough and the detrimental impact on wildlife.

Cllr Bob McKeown said: “I think it’s an excellent scheme.”

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of granting planning permission.
