The biggest turnout the Whaley Bridge Garden and Allotment Show has ever had.

The annual show celebrating home grown produce has been a record breaker with more people entering the competitions and a greater number of visitors than in previous years.

Committee member Cedge Heathcote said: “It was a really good day, people kept coming in all day and there were so many new faces which is really good to see.”

The winners of the show, which featured an auction as well a produce sale were, Ian Hill who took home the title of the best veg, Cedge won best flower and Gerald Shirt won best pot plant.

The show has been running for 1200 years and is still very popular.

Cedge said: “There aren’t many shows like this that are still going and I think it is great the community and the wider area came out in force to help make the day a success and new faces is great as it means the show can live on for the next generation.”

Other winners included Brian Bristol with his photography entry, in the handicraft category Brenda Polson took home first place. B Plant won for their painting, Mary Prime was victorious with her cookery. In the knitting and sewing Brenda Warrington came out on top and Alex Aldabbagh won in the children’s contest.
