Deep draws on the mystery surrounding a nineteenth-century mummified mermaid artifact uncovered at Buxton Museum.

The story focuses on Jan - a young man rejected by his peers and struggling to cope with his father's illness.

It has been penned by award winning writer Rob Young - who has previously been commissioned to write scripts for the BBC, Channel 4 and the National Theatre - and directed by Kitty Randle, artistic director of award-winning REC Youth Theatre Company.

Kitty said: “With the collaborations between so many local art organisations, this is such an exciting play for Buxton.”

Deep will play at Buxton Opera House on January 26 at 7pm. Tickets cost £15 and are available at Buxton Opera House Box Office by phoning 01298 72190 or visiting www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
