Volunteers needed to help shape the future of Chapel-en-le-Frith

Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council is looking at reviewing its Neighborhood Plan and wants residents to get involved and help shape what the future of the town will look like.

A Neighbourhood Plan is an opportunity to shape future development and ensure that the views, needs and aspirations of the community are reflected in planning policies for years to come.

Emma Howe, assistant to the clerk for Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council, said: “The Neighbourhood Plan helps guide future development within our parish and gives local people a voice in shaping the places where we live, work and enjoy our community.

“As our parish continues to evolve, it is important that the Plan reflects current priorities and aspirations. “We are looking for volunteers from all backgrounds to join a working group that will help review and update the Plan. “This is a unique opportunity to make a positive contribution to the future of Chapel-en-le-Frith and ensure that local voices continue to influence planning decisions affecting our community.”

Those who want to get involved will be asked to review the current plan, identify what has changed in the parish, gather community views and ideas as well as discuss priorities for housing, local services and facilities.

The volunteers would also be asked their opinion on green spaces, protected landscapes and heritage assets as well as how the policies can help support future generations.

The parish council says that anyone can volunteer and they do not need any previous planning experience but it is people’s local knowledge and ideas which they are most interested in.

All Neighbourhood Plans are then submitted to High Peak Borough Council and once it is adopted it will form part of the Development Plan for High Peak.

This means that it will become a main consideration within the local planning system.

A spokesperson for High Peak Borough Council said: “Neighbourhood planning enables members of a local community to take forward planning proposals for the neighbourhood in which they live.”

If anyone would like to get involved with the Chapel Neighbourhood Plan should contact Emma Howe on [email protected], pop in to the Town Hall or call 01298 813320 during office hours Tuesday – Friday, 9.00am – 2.00pm.
