Toddbrook Reservoir emergency: This is how the Whaley Bridge dam looks one year on

It is a year today since Whaley Bridge found itself at the centre of a major crisis.

Days of heavy rain caused damage to the dam wall at Toddbrook Reservoir, sparking a major incident and leading to 1,500 residents being forced to leave their homes for several days.

Emergency services, council teams, The Canal and River Trust, Environment Agency, mountain rescue teams and a host of other partner agencies and volunteers worked day and night for seven days to pump the water out of the reservoir, after it was feared the dam may collapse and the town would be flooded.

Thankfully, thanks to their heroic efforts, the disaster was averted. Work is now ongoing to repair the dam. Here is what it looks like 12 months on.
