The five-year-old birthday boy - self-isolating with his family as a precaution due to ill health - was left disappointed when his party was cancelled.

However the youngster - obsessed with emergency services - was awe-struck when a fire engine and police car rolled down his street.

A video taken from the scene on Duke Street, Burbage, on Monday showed firefighters and police singing to the delighted little boy.

Lee Baker, PCSO supervisor for the High Peak, told how the officers and firefighters had been told about the tot’s plight by a resident and decided to stop off for the special visit while nearby on another job.

Though he described the boy’s reaction as ‘shy and a little overwhelmed’ he added it was nice ‘to make a difference to a young lad’.

Lee said: “We’re not able to do as much community engagement at the moment - we’re having to distance ourselves due to Covid-19.

“So we thought we’d take five minutes out to cheer up this young lad - as well as residents on the street.

“It was just nice to do something different - young people must be quite worried because it’s a totally different routine for them.”

Firefighter Steve Green, of Buxton’s Blue Watch, said: “I think it went down pretty well - it was just to show people we’re here and to cheer the lad up along with his family and neighbours.”
