Nine projects in High Peak benefit in latest round of Action Grants

Projects in the High Peak are among those that have benefited from a share of nearly £1million funding over the past two years.

The Action Grants scheme has boosted the activities of community groups, sports clubs, charities and parish councils around the county.

At the final tally, Derbyshire County Council has awarded Action Grants totalling nearly £905,000 to 906 projects across Derbyshire in eight rounds.

In the most recent round, 77 groups have been awarded grants totalling £220,000 across the four categories of youth activity, community activity, physical activity and sport and community safety.

In the High Peak, these projects have benefited from grants:

Chapel en le Frith Methodist Church has been awarded £10,000 to develop a community garden and make it accessible;

Aim High Coaching CIC in Glossop has won £9,800 for family health and fitness activities;

Street Active Sport iin Glossop has been given £4,600 for holiday activity camps;

Buxton Hockey Club has been awarded £900 to train coaches and buy new equipment;

Glossop North End Community Club has won £500 for pitch redevelopment;

New Mills Tennis Club has been awarded £500 for a smart accessible lock;

New Mills PTA Scoot for Life has won £499.88 to buy scooters for after school clubs;

Adventure Queens Derbyshire has been given £500 for a hiking skills workshop;

Tintwhistle Athletics Club has been given £493 to buy goal posts.

Elsewhere in the county, the grants are supporting activities such as tackling anti-social behaviour and scams, developing apps, building refurbishment, toddler groups, clubs for older people and activities to support disabled people.

County council leader Councillor Barry Lewis said: “There’s excellent work going on in our local communities and our Action Grants have helped to give some financial support to many of the activities."
