Derbyshire Police will receive a funding increase of up to £13.5 million next year, a 7.5% boost that will ensure police officers have the resources they need to tackle crime and keep the streets safe.

This increase is part of the £1.1 billion funding boost for police forces across England and Wales, the biggest increase in a decade that could take total funding for the policing system up to £15.2 billion.

The funding increase includes £150 million to fight organised crime and online child abuse, £39 million to tackle serious violence, including cracking down on county lines drug dealing and a £90 million increase for counter-terrorism policing to help protect our streets.

The funding boost follows the government’s plan to recruit an extra 20,000 police officers by 2023, with Derbyshire Police set to receive an initial 85 extra officers by the end of this year.

High Peak Borough Council will also see its budget increased by 4.2% this year, part of the government’s commitment to level up local services across the country for every community in the area.

Local authorities across the country, including High Peak Borough Council, will receive a share of £49.2 billion local government funding this year – a real terms increase of over 4%, and the largest year-on-year real terms increase in a decade.

Mr Largan said: “I’m very pleased that funding for Derbyshire Police and High Peak Borough Council will increase significantly in the next financial year. This additional funding will really help the police to keep the public and our streets safe, and it will help the High Peak Borough Council council to continue to deliver their crucial services.

“At last year’s general election, the Conservative government committed to working hard for all parts of the UK – and this funding boost will ensure that the High Peak will feel the benefits of that promise.”
