High Peak Neighbourhood Watch are asking members of the group to assist older people in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Dove Holes, Sparrowpit, Combs and Whitehough.

Members will be asked to post cards through older neighbours’ doors offering help delivering post, picking up shopping, providing urgent supplies or just a ‘friendly phone call’.

Chapel-en-le-Frith parish councillor Tony Dales said: “There are going to be a lot of worried people out there trapped in their own homes.

“We need to make sure these people have as much support as anyone else and for them to know they won’t be abandoned.”
