Edale Mountain Rescue Team attended 30 incidents in 31 days in August

Covid-19 and lockdown has led to society having to adapt to the ‘new normal’, with more people have been undertaking staycations and exploring closer to home in the past couple of months.

But this has lead to some of the busiest days in the Peak District that the MRT has seen.

Colin Price, the team’s duty leader, said: “Most days in August have been as busy as a normal bank holiday.

"Unfortunately, this has led to spike in call outs.

"During August the team has attended 30 separate incidents and a further four alerts that were resolved before a full deployment was necessary.

"This has meant the team has been extremely busy as working with coronavirus restrictions means more kit maintenance and intensive cleaning and, for team members, a physically more demanding environment with the warm weather and PPE.”

Colin also praised his volunteer team members who have given around 600 hours of time attending incidents in August.

Like many charities, Covid restrictions have led to cancellations of fund-raising activities and a drop in donations as a result.

Over bank holiday weekend, the group decided to resume its street collections, but this too was affected by incidents which the team needed to respond to.
