Chinley Primary School dress-up brings ‘joy and happiness’ amid coronavirus crisis

As coronavirus panic swept the nation this week teachers at Chinley Primary School gave children a ray of sunshine by holding their belated World Book Day dress-up.

Over 200 children and 15 teachers donned the costumes of their favourite characters on Thursday - following the yearly event’s cancellation earlier this month.

Headteacher Peter Lambert said the occasion was an opportunity to ‘bring some joy and happiness to a situation which is not great for everybody involved’.

Peter said: “It was a really good distraction for the children – and seemed to work well.

“The children threw themselves into and came up with some great costumes - as did the staff.”

Schools across the country will be closed as of Friday March 20 until further notice as a result of the spreading Covid-19.

However Peter confirmed Chinley Primary would remain open for the children of key workers.
