Buxton Town Team’s eye-catching work has put a smile on people’s faces at a time when most seasonal events and festivities have had to be cancelled because of restrictions on public gatherings.

Steve Bradshaw, a director of the town team, said: “This year has brought many challenges and we hope that by putting up decorations we can bring some festive cheer.”

The decorations were installed on Saturday during poor weather by small family groups of volunteers. Timings were staggered to ensure all the necessary social distancing rules could be met.

Steve said: “I want to thank all the volunteers who came out to put up the decorations in really foul weather. It was all done in a spaced-out, secure way which did reduce the sociable nature of the event, but hopefully everyone was able to enjoy it.”

The decorations have been created over a number of years by volunteers. This year additional help was provided by Buxton Community School who helped repaint a number of the snowmen.

Since it was formed back in 2012 the town team – run entirely by volunteers – has taken on a number of successful developments to make a positive difference to Buxton.
