Buxton Mountain Rescue Team launch appeal for replacement stretcher

The team are currently relying on a light-weight back-up in one of their rescue vehicles however they are hoping to buy a new Bell stretcher - a much stronger and foldable variety.

Darren Hunt, fundraising coordinator, said the ‘more versatile’ Bell stretcher was used on 99 per cent of rescues.

He said: “We use them to evacuate casualties from whatever location they’re in and without this piece of equipment we wouldn’t be able to do our job.”

BMRT have launched a crowdfunding appeal to help pay for the new stretcher - which, amazingly, has raised over 50 per cent of the money needed in just over 24 hours.

As part of the appeal the team has been given three mountain bike wheels which they can fix to the stretcher - allowing a smoother transferral of casualties on terrain which permits their use.

The three 24” wheels were donated by bike shop Beespoke Wheels.

Darren said: “Thanks to Chris and all the mountain bikers out there who support our work.”

Speaking about the overwhelming number of donations form kind members of the public to the stretcher appeal Darren said: “In the current economic climate it's very surprising and a great Christmas present for the team.

“We really do appreciate everyone’s support during this Covid times – it’s amazing really so we want to thank everyone who’s donated.”
