Over 40 fitness fans from New Bodies Gym are each recording a line from the classic feel-good tune dressed in wacky Christmas outfits.

Once New Bodies owner Andrew Lomax and his wife Emma have edited the madcap performance together it will be released on Facebook in early December.

Emma, 43, has rewritten the hit 1987 song with her own lyrics around a keep-fit theme.

The idea was inspired by the parents - both New Bodies members - of two-year-old Molly Corthorn - who doctors gave a 30 per cent chance of survival at birth.

Little battler Molly was found to have fluid on her brain and a hernia causing pressure on her heart and lungs during mum Kimberley’s pregnancy.

The tot miraculously pulled through and even though distraught Kimberley and dad Dan were told she may never walk and talk she is now a ‘happy and chatty’ little girl.

She is now learning to get about with a walking frame.

“We just thought it would be nice to raise some money for other children spending their Christmas in hospital.”

Emma told how the idea for the video came about while she was singing along to the well-known Scottish anthem while unloading the dishwasher.

She said: “I was just playing around with words but then we thought it would be a laugh if we got others involved - then it just grew.

“So many people have got involved during lockdown we ended up editing all the selfie videos together.

“It started as a bit of fun to keep members in touch with each other.”

Since the second lockdown New Bodies have been running between 5-6 fitness classes a day on Zoom.

Emma said: “Sometimes members meet up on Zoom just for a chat - lots of them live alone and it’s a really lonely time. Which is another reason for doing the video in the first place.”

The video will be available on Facebook next month at www.facebook.com/New.Bodies.Gyms.
