Buxton British Heart Foundation shop appeals for more volunteers

The British Heart Foundation shop in Buxton is appealing for local people to donate the gift of time, to support the charity’s recovery from the coronavirus crisis.

The shop had to close in March due to the pandemic but was thrilled to reopen its doors this summer, to start raising funds for life saving research.

The coronavirus crisis has had a devasting impact on the BHF’s income, leading to a potential £50 million cut in research funding and the delay of important scientific breakthroughs.

It is now urgently asking the community to support their local shop by taking up volunteering opportunities available.

The shop in Buxton has re-opened with new measures in place to keep staff, volunteers and customers safe.

This includes social distancing on the shop floor, protective equipment for staff and volunteers, contact-free collections and the resting of donated items.

The BHF Buxton shop is asking local people, who feel ready to get out and try something new, to consider volunteering to help support it.

As well as helping to raise funds for the charity’s important work, volunteering can have other benefits and has been proven to improve mental wellbeing.

Volunteers will be able to help in a range of roles such as customer service assistants and stock room assistants.

Each pound raised in BHF shops helps the charity to support those living with heart and circulatory diseases, many of whom are at increased risk from Covid-19.
