The work - painstakingly made using a pouring technique - has been named ‘The Ashgate Feather’.

Artist behind the vibrant work Tim Frost told how he chose the title because of feathers’ biblical associations with love and mercy.

The striking painting took two weeks to dry alone - after which it was covered with varnish to preserve its bright colours permanently.

Tim has used his art to support the charity because ‘they do a wonderful job’.

He added: “People in Buxton don’t realise how much they help people from across the High Peak.”

Speaking about his love for acrylic painting Tim said: “There are so many ways to produce the art and I love pouring because it’s so abstract.

“No two paintings are ever the same - you can try and replicate something but it never comes out exactly the same and that's the beauty.”

Grandfather-of-five Tim said he chose a black background to highlight the painting’s powerful effect.

He said: “I love colour and I wanted it to be bright for the hospice.”

Disappointingly Tim - who had hoped to raise a ‘decent amount for Ashgate’ - said the painting had so far raised only £30 at auction - a fraction of what he could have sold it for if he had done so privately then handed over the money to the hospice.

Tim’s work is part of an Ashgate fundraising drive as it has predicted losing £2 million due to the coronavirus pandemic and is seeking applications for voluntary redundancy from its 340 staff.

The funding Ashgate receives from local health budgets has not increased since 2014.

While Derby and Derbyshire CCG Clinical Commissioning Group have said that they are looking into extra funding to help the hospice get through the next few months, it looks set to be well short of the amount needed - leaving the charity no choice but to seek voluntary redundancies.

Tim’s work is on display at his Hardwick Street studio Cap-It-All Bear Design and Buxton’s Herb Garden Bistro.
