Peak District: Illegal off–roaders targeted by police

Illegal off–roaders on Peak District byway are being targeted by police.

Sergeant Andy Wordsworth and PC Simon Wolverson were supported by the Peak District National Park Authority in carrying out enforcement patrols at rural locations around Pretty Wood, Eyam and Long Causeway at Stanage.

The patrols were carried out as part of Operation Blackbrook following reports from residents of vehicles driving along the restricted tracks and damaging the area.

The initiative, which took place on Saturday, saw officers carrying out patrols on footpaths and restricted byways leading from New Road to Pretty Wood at Eyam.

The operation was also carried out at Long Causeway on Stanage Edge, to prevent illegal vehicle usage taking place along the route.

Sergeant Andy Wordsworth, from the Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “During the operation, we were really pleased to see no off road vehicles in either of the rural patrol locations around Pretty Wood or Long Causeway.

“The views of our local residents are really important to us and we do work to tackle any issues raised.”
