The Coronavirus Act 2020 contains considerable powers for the executive to curtail our freedoms without parliamentary scrutiny. This may have been acceptable when an unprecedented situation required rapid action but the Government cannot go on using that excuse to further its insatiable power grab.It is using the Covid crisis as an opportunity to pass laws without democratic scrutiny, rushing them through without debate.

The Internal Market Bill has been designed to allow the Government to bypass parts of the Withdrawal Agreement it finds inconvenient. Despite a heavy defeat in the House of Lords, Johnson has reiterated his intention to proceed with the bill unchanged. If it becomes an act of Parliament, the IMB will break international law. But it will also give the Government power to override any domestic law it chooses and Parliament will be powerless to stop it.

I feel the actions of this Government are far from democratic. This is simply not acceptable.
