New Mills salon owner's defiant message to burglars

During the early hours of Sunday morning Adeva Hair and Beauty Salon, on Church Street New Mills, was broken in to and thieves got away with hundreds of hair dyes, expensive shampoo and conditioners along with straighteners and children’s Christmas presents.

Julian Thompson is the joint owner with his wife Jackie and said it is the third break in the salon has had in eight years.

He said: “It’s very disheartening but you have to bounce back.

“There are much worse things in the world and luckily no one was hurt.

“We refuse to give up and be beaten.

“Since it happened everyone has been so supportive, we have had customers turning up with chocolates and biscuits and another bought in straighteners and hair dryers for us to use.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for standing by us.”
Julian, who also has a salon in Whaley Bridge, said it is always in the run up to Christmas that the shop gets robbed.

He said: “The thieves seem to forget that what they are taking is our livelihood and when you know it will be sold on quickly and cheaply it does make you angry as their was probably close to £3,000 worth of stock taken.”
The team returned to work on Tuesday and Julian said it is horrible what has happened especially as a customer dropped in Christmas presents for one of the staff member’s children and they had been taken too.

He said: “We are going to get better CCTV and extra security but we love what we do and we won’t stop just because we have had a set-back.”

“My wife is an inspiration and she has such a positive outlook on life so with her and the wonderful staff and customers I know we will be okay.”
A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “A large quantity of items - including cash, hair products and electrical equipment - were stolen.”
