Earlier in the month residents on the 65 route service feared they would lose their ‘vital lifeline’ when High Peak buses was looking to reduce the service to only two trips a day rather than seven.

However, Stagecoach Yorkshire took over the remainder of the service on Sunday, July 22 much to the delight of residents who campaigned to save the route.

Peter O’Brien, Grindleford Parish Councillor, is delighted with the result.

He said: “Not having the full bus service would have been an absolute disaster as it is such a vital lifeline for so many and I am delighted Stagecoach has picked up the route for the rest of the Monday to Saturday and introduced a Sunday service too.

“The unexpected change of direction, when we thought we were losing the regular service is a great turnaround and will help people get to and from work and to various destinations along the route.
The new 65 service will operate between Buxton and Sheffield seven days a week and - for the first time - extend to Meadowhall Retail Park, the flyDSA Arena, Meadowhall Shopping Centre and Ikea.

It will give passengers access to more than 230 stores and 50 places to eat and drink at Meadowhall - one of the most-visited shopping destinations in the region.

Matt Davies, Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “The new service is ideal for passengers heading into Sheffield for work, shopping and leisure.”
Peter added: “The communities along the route will hopefully be meeting with Stagecoach Yorkshire in September to discuss how the route can remain viable and sustainable and I think this interaction with the passengers and the company is really important so they can see just how needed the service is.”

Return tickets can be used on the Hulley’s of Baslow service 66 between Buxton and Calver.

Explorer day tickets (£6.50) and Megarider Gold weekly tickets (£22) will provide unlimited travel on the Peakbus 65 service, as well as the whole of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire with Stagecoach including the Sheffield Supertram.

A child version is available for passengers aged five to 15 years old priced at £4.30.
