Known as ‘Mad Friday’, it marks the start of the festive season for many who are finishing work and are set to head out for a tipple or two.

Derbyshire Constabulary and East Midlands Ambulance Service will be working together to keep party-goers in Chesterfield and Derby safe and reduce unnecessary admissions to emergency departments as part of an appeal to prevent alcohol harm.

Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: “This time of year is popular with people heading out to celebrate and we would urge people to be sensible and behave responsibly.

“If you are having a drink, know your limits and be aware of your personal safety at all times.

“We will have a visible presence in towns and the city to make sure people can enjoy themselves safely.”
