LETTER: Dedication event to mark 100 years
Thursday, May 31, marks the Centenary of the World War One Sea Battle of Jutland and at 11am a recently planted oak tree to commemorate the occasion will be dedicated in the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton.
Not far from this oak tree is one that was planted by the local Royal Naval Association in 2005 to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
The Battle of Jutland was the most significant naval battle of World War One, with over 100,000 sailors involved on 250 ships. More than 6,000 Royal Navy and 2,500 German sailors lost their lives.

Hide AdShipmates of the Royal Naval Association will join the deputy mayor, Councillor Matt Stone, together with the Chaplain of the Branch, Rev Andrew Parker, and youngsters of our local Sea Cadet Unit who will also witness the event.
Standards of the Royal Naval Association and the Royal British Legion will be paraded.
