Just weeks until Tour de France arrives in the area

The event comes to the Peak District on Sunday July 6, with the riders expected to enter Derbyshire at around 3pm and the 150-strong vehicle procession, known as the caravan, running through beforehand at about 1pm.

The riders will travel along the A6024 near Holme Moss before following the A628 Woodhead Pass towards Sheffield.

Some temporary road closures will be in place to prepare for the race and provide safe access for residents, businesses and visitors to Glossop and Hadfield.

The A57 Mottram (Eastbound) will be closed from the early hours of July 6, as will New Road/West Drive/West Street/Bank Lane Tintwistle, the A57 Woolley Bridge, the A628 Tintwistle (East of Old Road) and the A57 High Street West.

Some routes will be closed from Friday July 4, while a one-way system will be in operation in Glossop town centre from the early hours of Sunday.

Around 40,000 spectators are expected to line the Derbyshire stretch of the route so people are being advised to plan ahead carefully and give themselves plenty of time.

Car parking will also be limited so anyone who can walk or cycle is encouraged to do so.

There will also be a big-screen event in Manor Park where you can watch all the action live.

High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council will join the Glossop Arts and Leisure Association (GALA) at the carnival day in the park, where family-friendly entertainment will be on offer and locals can celebrate the Tour de France.

A drop-in information evening for locals to find out more about the event, and what is happening in Glossop, is taking place at Bradbury House, Glossop tonight (Thursday) from 4pm to 7pm.
