JOURNEY INTO THE PAST: Under-threat bus services vital to local communities

Bus services throughout Derbyshire are under threat because of government funding cuts.

More than 150 services could be axed next year unless the companies who run them can make them commercially viable.

The proposals, which will be subject to public consultation, could also see the current subsidy replaced with funding for ‘flexibly routed services’ which would cover four areas of the county on a pre-booked basis only. See more here.

Buses have always been a vital service for people throughout Derbyshire, as this old footage taken in Chesterfield shows.

What are your experiences of using buses in Derbyshire? Perhaps you’ve worked for one of the county’s bus companies in the past? Maybe you recognise one of the vehicles shown in this footage. How will the proposals affect you? Let us know by emailing [email protected].
