Year 6 pupils at the Cranmer Street school have made planes and figures for the area while members of the gardening club have created a distinctive planter.

The area also features several photos - including one of William Dennis Sisson, who was in the medical corps during the Second World War and is the grandfather of the school’s gardening and community ambassador Kerry Wheatley - and documents such as telegrams from service personnel to loved ones.

Kerry said: “I’m proud of the children for getting involved in this special project.

“It’s so important for them to remember the past, and the ultimate sacrifice that many of them made.”
