Shannon Belfield is one of ten shortlisted finalists, and will represent Derbyshire in the competition, run by Farmer’s Weekly.

The 19-year-old, of Flash, beat off tough competition from over 300 entrants and is now hoping to attract the public’s support to take the crown.

Shannon, who works at her local agricultural suppliers and does relief milking three nights a week, said: “Farming’s important to me because it’s the job my family have done for generations and the only industry I can see myself working in.

“I love milking as I’m slightly cow-mad!”

The competition was launched at the end of last year, with judge Gok Wan helping to narrow the entries down to ten finalists, who will now go forward to a public vote. The two winners, one male and one female, will be named on February 13.

Gok said: “What a beautiful bunch. From that wholesome, natural country look to downright smoking, each one of our shortlist has a unique sexiness.

“I’m rather relieved the final decision is not up to me - the public have got their work cut out choosing between this lovely lot.”

And Tim Relf, Farmer’s Weekly’s Community and Farmlife Editor added: “These five men and five women, who come from across the country, highlight what a modern, varied and dynamic industry farming is.”
