High Peak flies the flag for Commonwealth Day

The High Peak will be joining towns and villages across the country and the world to celebrate Commonwealth Day next week.

Services will be taking place in Buxton and Glossop at 10am on Monday, the same time as all the other participants in the UK and the Commonwealth.

High Peak mayor Cllr Tony Kemp will attend the Buxton event at the flag pole near to the Bandstand in the Pavilion Gardens.

Deputy mayor Cllr Graham Oakley will be at the Glossop event by the flag pole near the main gates at Manor Park.

All are welcome to attend. Both the mayor and deputy mayor will read out the Commonwealth Affirmation in advance of the flag raising.

Cllr Kemp said: “High Peak is proud to be joining with communities across the UK and the Commonwealth on this day which is aimed at ensuring continuing harmony amongst nations, something that remains as important today as it always has been.”

Commonwealth Day aims to promote understanding on global issues and international co-operation.
