Glossop stations awards plaque to duke
The Duke of Norfolk will visit Glossop station on July 13 and a plaque will be unveiled in his honour.
Edward Fitzalan-Howard, who will be in town to attend a British Legion Drumhead Service in Manor Park, will be shown around the railway station, including the wartime poetry display, by senior Northern Rail personnel along with Friends of Glossop Station.
Neil Williams, chairman of Friends of Glossop Station, said: “What is really special is that his forefather, the 13th Duke of Norfolk, built Glossop railway station in 1847 and the branch line to Dinting in 1845.”
To mark this historic family link with the Howard family, a plaque, which will depict his additional title of Baron Howard of Glossop, will be revealed on the day.
