Glossop mums raise £5k for Hadfield cancer charity

The dance, at The Venue at Wimberry Hill, on Woodhead Road, was held in memory of Mair Wallroth, who died from breast cancer in December 2012, just two months after giving birth to her son.

The event, sponsored by Bakers Solicitors, featured an auction with donated lots including a weekend break in Nice, a week’s holiday in Scarborough, an England shirt signed by Gary Neville, an iPad and a fitted patio.

Mummy’s Star, founded by Mair’s widower Pete in June, is the UK’s first and only charity for pregnant women with cancer.

The lunch club began as a few friends took it in turns to host lunches at each other’s houses in Glossop while they were on maternity leave.

Ginny Parkes, chair of the organising committee, said “It isn’t often that you are able to support a national charity with local roots and one which you can relate too. It has been our pleasure to support this wonderful cause.”
